If you go back 100 years, rural areas north of Toronto were dotted with fire lookout towers. There were as many as 300 in Ontario before planes started fire-spotting in the 1960s. A few now serve as recreational lookout towers that offer stunning views of the rugged landscap.

Tobermory. Lookout Tower
The lookout tower at the Parks Canada Visitor Center gives you an amazing view of the area. You don’t have to pay to go up the tower.

Parry Sound. Tower Hill Lookout
Parry Sound’s 30m high observation tower provides stunning 360 degree views of the harbour Georgian Bay. After taking 130 steps up, you will be able to gaze down upon boats, float planes and barges, and the famous Canadian Pacific Railway trestle bridge below you.
Below the lookout tower is the Tower Hill Heritage Garden and the Museum on Tower Hill, where you can learn about the history of our area.
